
Ricardo Mulhia is a Mexican writer and filmmaker. At the age of nineteen, his debut short film Vida premiered at the FICCHT, winning Best Cinematography, and the Short Shorts International Film Festival. His latest directorial work on the comedy short Moonbeam’s Vision was featured at the Auckland International Film Festival in New Zealand. He has lived and worked on films across the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
His stories reveal a multicultural perspective on the themes of intersecting identities in the scope of family, love, and death.
He worked in film distribution and local development at 20th Century Fox Film International. In 2012, he established an eponymous production company to helm various film projects including music videos. He has a Bachelor’s degree in Communications from Anáhuac University in Mexico City, a diploma in Writing for Film and Television from the Vancouver Film School, and screenwriting studies at the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque, USA. He is the recipient of the Tina and Morris Wagner Foundation Fellowship for the development of his original television series Alien Nation. He studied classical guitar at his natal music conservatory, and is passionate about storytelling in new media platforms such as virtual reality.
He lives in Vancouver, Canada where he completes his first novel, and is working towards his MFA at the University of British Columbia where he lectures in creative writing for new media, podcasts, and video games. He coordinates the longstanding community arts programme New Shoots tasked with teaching creative writing in local high schools.
